7 STEPS TO BECOME MORE PRODUCTIVE

You ever look at your To-Do List at the end of the day, like why the heck haven’t I gotten any of this done? In those moments you’re like where the heck did the time go? I’ve felt like this on plenty of occasions, so much that I had to identify ways to make more of my day and become more productive. So, here’s some of my findings for how to be more productive.

 1. PLAN PLAN PLAN

I can’t reiterate this enough. Winging your day to day is a sure fire way of not being the most productive you can possibly be.

 2. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS

Want to know why you’re more productive at work than you are at home…because there aren’t any distractions. The less options you give yourself for distractions the more productive you will become. Get off IG (*looks at the mirror and repeats 5Xs) and save that juicy phone call with the BFF for after your to-do list is slayed.

 3. SET A DEADLINE

Too often we have goals whether its professionally or personally and we leave it open ended with no end deadline in sight. That’s how you’ll play yourself into tomorrow tomorrow and tomorrow. Before you know it, it’s been 5 years and whatever it was you were trying to accomplish never gets done. I recommend even setting a timer for completing tasks and short term daily goals. 20m/1hr or whatever it takes to stay on task – set the timer for it. Remember what doesn’t get measured doesn’t get done.

 4. FIND YOUR WEAKNESS

If you find yourself constantly starting tasks but never finishing them, at some point you gotta ask yourself, why? If you have a short attention span you need to know why. Is it a passion/motivation gap, an environment gap, or a skill gap? Is it a phase due to something going on in your life? Are you bored? OR maybe you’re just every time something gets difficult, you tap out. Discover this why, and begin addressing how you’ll overcome it.

 5. GOAL GUARDRAIL

If you’re a multi-tasker like me, it’s very easy to get distracted, working on several things without completing any. So, put a mental guardrail in place to focus and stay on one goal or task through completion before attacking the next. Do not allow yourself to start 100 projects without completing one!

 6. ELIMINATE PERFECTION

Perfection is the killer of productivity.  Do not engage in analysis until paralysis. Completion is often better than perfection.

 7. GPS

Sometimes I don’t even want to go my kids school without using my GPS, because I want to know exactly how to get where I’m going the fastest and most efficient way possible. Pursuing goals in life are the same, we need a map and navigational system in place to go where we want to go in life, and have an idea of when we’ll get there.

Most people know what the end goal is that they want, but are pump faking on the execution because they don’t have a map or GPS. Once you know how to do something, it’s 10Xs easier to do it. Preparing yourself for the process and journey by acquiring a roadmap and measurable course of action is the only way to achieve your end goal! Executing requires a planned map that serves a purpose towards this end goal.
