The Blueprint to Success
“Plans are useless, but planning is indispensable", and "Plans are worthless, but planning is essential." - a paradoxical statement by U.S President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
According to my definition, the level of success in your execution is determined long beforehand, by the level of YOUR planning and preparation.
If you fail to plan, then you simply planned to fail.
How To Be More Productive
PLAN PLAN PLAN I can’t reiterate this enough. Winging your day to day is a sure fire way of not being at your utmost productivity level. We have all heard this very common saying, “Rome was not built in a day!”. Somehow I just don’t think that common sense is that common after all. Even Jesus said in Luke 14, that a man needs to count the cost before building a tower.…Without proper planning there is more to lose than to gain, it’s just that essential.
Prolific Author and widely known influential thinker, Peter Drucker said, “Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work.” When coupled with hard work, diligence and commitment, all plans ultimately develop into reality in a field of dreams. There’s no success without hard work. No gain without burning the midnight oil so to speak. Beneath every success story is the road map of one’s hard work laid out in sequences of plans and preparations. Sometimes the trail is mingled with blood, sweat and tears and relentless hours of sleeplessness, drafting and redrafting the plans and purpose before they materialize.
I am a true believer of planning ahead. I do not like to be caught up by surprises along life’s way, and don’t we all know this. Life sure does have a way of catching you unaware doesn’t it?
A TIMER IS MORE THAN JUST AN ALARM CLOCK
When you have a goal or task that you want to complete within a set frame of time, set a timer! Force yourself to take the quiet moments to complete the task. Want to know why you’re more productive at work than you are at home…because there aren’t any distractions. The less options you give yourself for distractions the more productive you will become.
A timer is your umpire! Your gauge. It can relieve you from unnecessary stresses of timed projects going awry. When your schedule goes spinning out of control, know your timer has got your back. You tell it when to set off the “STOP!!!!!!!buzzer… A timer helps you set the pace and keep your momentum without sudden interruptions.
Keeping a timer in hand especially when you fall prey to losing track of yourself, wards off the complexities of time constraint. It’s more handy than you’ll ever realize. It’s like keeping a calendar to track all your activities. You will always be in control of your own schedule. Now isn’t that reassuring?
YOU ARE NOT DONE UNTIL YOUR DEADLINE IS UP!
SET DEADLINES! Too often we have goals whether they be professionally or personally spurned but we leave them open ended with no end deadlines in sight. That's how you’ll play yourself into putting things off for tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow and before you know it, 5 years have flown by and whatever it is you were trying to accomplish never gets done.
PROCRASTINATION is the devil’s instrument when it comes to hindering your success and preventing your end goal from becoming a reality. Too many sincere, hardworking men and women have fallen victims to this very subtle but certain diabolical tool of adversity, stifling your purpose.
Ever started something and never got to complete the tasks? If you’re one of those people that starts 100 projects and never completes something you need to ask yourself why? If you have an attention span deficiency which essentially means you get bored easily, you need to know why. Is it a passion? Is it a phase? Are you bored? OR are you an avoider every time something gets difficult.
Do not allow yourself to start a 100 projects before completing one! It’s better to take your time to exude every ounce of energy into a carefully thought out, well planned project then jump into something that you can hope to get an overnight success in. Nothing attained that easily lasts forever. The higher the destiny, the harder the climb and it all begins at the bottom with a very small step called proper planning.
Perfection is the killer of productivity. PRACTICE DOES NOT MAKE PERFECT! PRACTICE MAKES PERMANENT! Planning takes patience and definitely practice.
EXECUTE YOUR END GOAL
Most people know what the end goal is that they want but aren’t prepared for the journey to the end goal! Execution requires a planned map that serves a purpose towards the end goal. Evaluate your end goal. Is it an emergency or necessity or want? You have an end goal but you don’t have a measurable course of action for how the heck you’re going to get there? Nothing comes into play without a blueprint. Your blueprint for success is dependent on your planning. Last of all but not least, commit your plans with prayer to God that He may grant you good success. He’s the Master planner.
